What changes the scope
Maintenance depends on the equipment and what has happened before.
System type, age, water quality, service history, and visible condition determine what should—and should not—be disturbed.
Model requirements
Manufacturer guidance identifies filters, flushing, inspection, and service points.
Water quality
Sediment, scale, filtration, and treatment affect maintenance needs.
Age and condition
Corrosion, valves, leakage, and unknown history can change the safest plan.
System performance
Noise, temperature changes, error codes, and reduced capacity deserve attention.
Helpful before the visit
Provide the model number, approximate age, prior maintenance date, and any change in noise or performance.
Where this service fits
Maintenance should fit the equipment and its history.
Different water-heating systems have different service points. Age, water quality, sediment, filters, venting, condensate, valves, and manufacturer instructions all affect what should be done.
01
Sediment concerns
Noise, reduced capacity, or known hard-water conditions that may contribute to buildup.
02
Tankless service
Descaling, filter checks, and system review based on the unit and manufacturer requirements.
03
Heat-pump upkeep
Filter, condensate, airflow, and installation-condition checks appropriate to the equipment.
04
Pre-failure planning
An older unit that still works but deserves an assessment before replacement becomes urgent.
Practical paths
How we approach water heater maintenance.
Inspect
Review visible condition, connections, controls, shutoffs, drainage, and signs of corrosion or leakage.
Maintain
Perform appropriate service based on system type, condition, and the manufacturer’s instructions.
Plan
Document concerns and discuss repair or replacement timing when maintenance alone is not the practical answer.
Not sure which path matches the problem?
Describe what you know. The office will help set up the right first visit.

A local family company
Service knowledge backed by full-system experience.
The Veach family has served Southwest Washington since 1999. All County works on everyday repairs, commercial plumbing, and ground-up construction, so the conversation includes both the immediate problem and the system around it.
01
Tell us what changed
The symptom, timing, location, and any photos help the office understand the call.
02
Inspect the system
The plumber checks the conditions that affect the diagnosis and practical options.
03
Choose the scope
The findings, recommended work, and pricing are explained before approved work begins.
Straight answers
Water Heater Maintenance questions
How often should a water heater be maintained?
The appropriate interval depends on the equipment, manufacturer guidance, water quality, age, and operating history. We can review the system and recommend a practical schedule.
Can every older tank be flushed?
Not always. Heavy sediment, a questionable drain valve, tank condition, or leak risk may change the recommendation. The system should be evaluated before disturbing an older unit.
Does maintenance guarantee the water heater will not fail?
No. Maintenance can help identify problems and support normal operation, but it cannot eliminate age, corrosion, component failure, or unexpected leaks.
